Characters Name: Otoya Ittoki
Age: 17, April 11th
Canon: Uta no Prince-sama
Canon Point: Anime Season 2, Episode 5
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: Under 18, N/A
History: WIKI
Appearance:

Personality: Friendly. Warm-hearted. Compassionate. Kind. Cheerful – all apt descriptions of Ittoki Otoya and all simply scratch the surface. Otoya is a young man that, despite having lost his mother at an early age, and not knowing who his father is, and despite the fact that he grew up in an orphanage, has a very positive and forward-looking outlook on life that was, in fact, nurtured and encouraged by the very orphanage where he grew up. For Ittoki, the influence that they had on him taught him how to accept the bad things with the good in life and, more importantly, put them into a perspective that enabled him to learn and grow with each new experience. His time with them taught him not only to accept others as they are, but to support and encourage them with a sincere selflessness that he himself doesn’t really realize he possesses.
His mischievous antics as a child and energetic personality lead to a plethora of interests – from playing soccer to tag with the younger kids in the orphanage to playing guitar and singing. All of his interests were encouraged and thus he’s quick to also encourage others in their interests and struggles as well.
This finds itself manifest in so many ways with the others as well – for example, his immediate and unshakeable faith in Nanami, the compassion he feels for her in her struggles, and his desire to see her succeed not for his own benefit but her own reflect that same selflessness. In Nanami, he sees her as someone that is incredibly positive, honest, and strives to always do her best, but also recognizes that she doesn’t recognize those qualities within herself and that, because of that lack of awareness, she’s sometimes a little clumsy and awkward at other times – and that, because of that, it makes him want to cheer her on all the more to see her reach her goals.
It’s an unquestionable fact that while each of the members of Starish care about Nanami, Ittoki seems to be the one that is the most outwardly focused on Nanami’s own growth and happiness rather than his own. For each of the others, there is a level of dependacy on Nanami as their source of hope or motivation but with Ittoki... he wants to support her hopes and her dreams by singing her songs.
Unlike the others, he’s not inspired by her, but because of her. It’s a subtle but notable difference.
It’s the difference that leads him to always put her first. When she struggles, he’s often the one that reaches out or goes to seek her out in order to give her either a few words of quiet reassurance or exuberant support (or both!) with an unconscious selflessness because for him, his first concern is, quite simply, about her and not now she can help him. He shows this deference for her in little ways – like often being the first to agree with her ideas, or to attempt to get their teacher to intercede on her behalf when she had rumors going about her, or even being the one to slow down and offer her a hand when she falls behind in their mad dash to catch the Headmaster. When she’s upset or distraught, he’s quick to use a kind voice and soft words to reassure – and when she needs a boost, he’s just as quick with an excited declaration in order to support her motivation.
That concern doesn’t stop at her, however. When conflict arises between the group members, he tries to understand both sides of the situation and is quick to offer both forgiveness and acceptance to the others just as equally. When they struggle, he’s quick to jump in to help, no holding back – because for him, they’re all his important friends. He approaches them all with an open heart and without hesitation and that, more than anything is his greatest strength. It makes him fearless and confident in the face of new challenges, determined to see them through and not give up and it’s that message that he hopes to convey through his music.
He has a strong sense of justice, and treats all people with an open faith and compassion almost to the point of naivety. With friends, however, he adds a deep level of loyalty to the mix so that he’s always willing to give the benefit of the doubt when needed or stand up and defend them in order to protect them (especially in the case of Nanami) even if it sometimes gets him in trouble.
With his perpetually optimistic outlook on life, he’s just as quick to try to find ways either keeping everyone's spirits high and motivated or to cheer his friends up when they're struggling or feeling down because for him, he’d much rather see them smiling brightly than hurt or confused or alone. Sometimes that way includes a smile and some encouraging words and sometimes it means he'll go to his other friends for help, to draw them into the project based on their own likes and hobbies so that they could support each other together and show each other that no matter what they do, they aren't alone in the doing of it. For Ittoki, helping each other through their struggles helps them grow as both individuals and friends.
Interestingly enough, however, until just before his arrival he was careful to keep his own past to himself so as to not trouble his friends. It wasn't that he didn't trust them with the knowledge that he was an orphan but rather that he didn't want to distract them when they had to focus on building their new careers because for him... his past and his time at the orphanage wasn't something that needed concern (much less pity) because it was, for him, a good place to grow up. It was, and still is, home to him and dear to his heart but sharing that with his friends? He's recently come to understand that by sharing his past with them, it's opening himself up to them so that they can get to know him and his heart a little better.
Abilities: Ittoki is just a regular guy - no super powers or secret skills. However he is a strong athlete that loves to play soccer and excels at gymnastics. He loves to sing and play guitar, both skills that got him into the Academy and eventually into the idol group called Starish.
Other: Quotes!
“I..I love… the music… that you make! How do I say this? Your music is so kind and crystal clear… I feel like it’s you, Nanami. I… wanna sing a song that you make! Um… well.. ‘bye – I’m gonna write your name as my ‘desired partner’, Nanami! That’s all I wanted to say! ”
“I think I’m the closest to you, Nanami. If I’m your partner, I’m sure I can sing a fantastic song for our graduation audition.”
“Ever since that recording test, I’ve felt that Nanami is the only one for me. I mean, I admire her. She’s been straightforward and striving since the entrance test.”

First Person: [Video]
[It took a few days to settle into this place and this house and to learn this new city but by the third day? Ittoki was pretty sure he had the place down. He was also pretty sure he was going a little stir-crazy.
They were missing half their group. They were away from their agency. But they did have Nanami and they had each other so! That meant the only thing they really had to do was... start over and try to get as much done for Starish as they could in case the others arrived.
So here, have a bright smile and a friendly wave after he starts the video.]
Ah, hello? Excuse me but I'm still kinda new here and was just wondering... does anyone know where I can get a guitar? An electric with an amp would be great, but I'd be pretty happy with an acoustic too.
[He hesitates then and leans to the side with an intent look, to make sure he sets the filter in place properly, away from Nanami, before he laughs a bit sheepishly and continues.]
I'd also like to make some blank sheet music, so if anyone has a calligraphy pen I can borrow, I'd really appreciate it! [And here he smacks his hands together and gives a grateful bow before sitting back and grinning.] I tried to find one at the store, but they just had regular pens and this project is for a friend so it needs something extra special. Okay! I think that's it so... thank you!
[And with one last wave, he reaches up to kill the feed.]
Third Person:
A good nights sleep and a hard run first thing in the morning helped put his arrival the day before into perspective. Sure, they were in a strange place and they didn't have a way to get home right then, but they weren't completely alone. Nanami was here and they had a nice house with a big yard to stay in. Free food, too, which wasn't so bad either.
So far as being stuck someplace, they could have had worse and that makes this place not so bad at all, really.
It even has a theater, according to Nanami so maybe... maybe he could cheer his friends up by going to that theater and scheduling them some rehearsal times? Not just for Nanami or for him, but all of them. They could work together and think up new songs and maybe even a few dances to go with them! Wouldn't it be great to be able to show their hard work to the others when the others arrived or when they got to go home?
Yeah... that's what he'd do. It'd definitely give them something to cheer them up and get them looking forward again, right?
Although, he'd have to wait a bit longer to go since he was sure the theater wasn't open at seven in the morning, but as soon as it was, he was there! For now, he simply began to hum to himself as he laced his sneakers, then slipped out the back door. A moment later, he was bouncing passes to himself off the side wall of their house, the football a black-and-white blur as he practiced his footwork in the early morning light.
